WinDVD Platinum 7.0.27.191
When it comes to software DVD player programs for the PC, non free high quality ones, WinDVD and PowerDVD have always been the best there is. Which one is better tho changes all the time.
I was a WinDVD user for a long time, until PowerDVD 6 came out, because it was better. PowerDVD 7 was released last week, I gave it a try, and hated it, stupid hard to use default skin, lack of any real new features, installs a freakin service that runs all of the time, so went back to PowerDVD 6 very quickly.
So now WinDVD releases a major update to its version 7, and I just had to give it a try.
The default install is a little, bulky, its installer is three times larger then PowerDVD's, let me run through my install routine.
1. Install WinDVD.
2. No I don't want the Google desktop search installed, or to participate in your 'Information Service' user info collecting program.
3. Finish installing.
4. Immediately uninstall included DivX codec, included InterActual player, and manually delete Intervideo Information Service program folder so it never runs.
But, once I manage to get all this done so its just the DVD player program which is all I need and want, to put it frankly, this thing pwns PowerDVD in every way.
It looks better, its image quality is far superior to PowerDVD, with many extra options for image refinement and sharpness. It sounds better, way better, and its hardware color acceleration, if have a good video card, is much, much, better then PowerDVD's, and it now has a full on hardware supported decoding option as well. And it has better features, like its exclusive 'QuickClip' feature, that allows you to make short, non copy-protected, minute or two .avi file clips from the movie you're watching.
PowerDVD 6 was good, PowerDVD 7 was disappointingly unimpressive, but WinDVD 7 is back on top as best program as it is superior in every single way.
