i recently noticed a new security program called aluria internet security on the download.com site offering a years free trial i was wondering if anyone knows of it ,tried it or heard anything about it being a bit dodgy or anything like that . i'm sure i read somewhere that it installed spyware/malware

Ive heard of this before. I think it was once called Spyware Eliminator.

Their homepage http://www.aluriasoftware.com/homeproducts/ makes it look good, but it makes me wonder why they want to give away a free year. Albeit a promotional gimmick or due to winning users from main competition, still would have me being cautious.

One last point, Aluria Software had a product called UControl, read This Article (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#ucontrol_note) before trying this new product.
