Can anyone tell me what the major differences are between Photoshop 7.0 and 8.0? I have both programs but do not want to install Photoshop 8.0 if there is a new learning curve involved or there is nothing of major difference between the 2.
Thanks :) :)

I had Photshop 7.1 for a long time and noticed by the screenshots
of Photoshop 8.0 that the program got a filter preview window that is
not there in Photoshop 7.0. Of course there might be other little features too that PSP 7 doesn't have.

I just jumped to Photshop CS2 (which has Bridge in it) and found the later VERY SLOW compared to version 7. I read many posts of people complaining about it on the Net. Although they said that version 8 is slower than 7 they reported the new Bridge feature that they implemented in Photoshop CS2 made the program even more slower. In the meantime, I have set Photoshop not to launch Bridge at starting and it is much better but still, not as fast as version 7!

I remember I could make most PS8 tutorials with version7.
Just a little few of them I could not make with it.

Hint: I read not long ago someone's post at Amazon
complaining that the PS8 bible is almost the same book
as PS7 bible except for the photography section. By deduction,
I concluded that there might be not so much big difference
between both programs if the author, who is an authority, wrote almost the same book 2 times.

Thanks Uguel! I guess I will keep what I have been using then, don't need my pc or programs going any slower. I do need to check out that PS7 bible though, may give me more instruction, thanks again

You're welcome Neo! Yes, if speed is an issue for you I won't reccomend
the latest version. As I read, version 8 is a little slower than version 7 but the latest version, Photoshop CS2 is much more slower than any previous versions. Some think that the product has been released too fast and that it is almost as if it's a beta!

I have Photoshop CS2 and it actually runs fine on my PC. Ok, because Im 'Technical' you all think I have a mega fast PC, well, wrong. I have a 900mhz Celeron 512mb Ram but a 1TB of hard drive space.

My PC runs all the programs I have and never keels over. If Photoshop runs slow, id just upgrade the Ram.

Right now I have 512 mb ram and 20.8 GB free space. But one thing though,
I kept my old Photoshop 7 and maybe that can be an issue. Do you think
that having both might cause conflicts and then Photoshop CS2 would run
slower because of that?

Shouldn't make a difference.

But if your PC is slow, it could be due to fragmented data. Try a defrag of your system and reboot. See if that helps.

I try to defragment the system but a pop up window from the system manager gave me a message saying that the analysis is complete and that I don't need to defragment the volume. So in my case it might be something else. Oh one thing though, I notice that it is slow especially at starting (comparing with PS7) but after that it runs more normally, not as fast as PS7 but still it could be worse.

Some people said it might be because the fonts...I don't think so because
PS7 has the same fonts to load and it doesn't do that.

the reason why I kept my old version is that it is in French
and it allows me to do French tutorials more easily.

I have something like 27,000 fonts installed (according to FontFitting Room (http://www.experiencewindows.co.uk/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=5)).

You can still defrag the system, try this:

Press Start > Right click My Computer > Select Manage > Disk Defragmenter > Then Click Defragment rather than analyze.

Windows says it may not need defragmenting, but you should still do it every week/month.

Id recommend a 3rd Party program called Perfect Disk:

When you install any version of Photoshop, it lets you select French from the install menu.

thanks a lot Micron. I will try your first suggestion and see what happens
and if I notice that PS is still running slow at start up, I might try the Perfect dicsk defragmenter.

27, 000 fonts installed? Holly Molly...and I thought that I had a lot!!! :D

Your welcome.

Yeah, I keep all my fonts, some say it slows your PC, but I've never had any issues. Photoshop takes a bit longer to load as it has to load the fonts, but other than that its fine.
