Bless me Father for I have sinned, it has been two days since I have played a PC game...
I am currently playing through Dungeon Siege II.
If you played the first one and liked it, you will like this one as well. Although it is not the best RPG out there (see World of Warcraft) it is also available for play offline, which is a big plus when you do not have a high-speed internet connection.
The game is sort of an amalgation of Dungeon Siege and Diablo II. There are 3 different difficulty levels and tons and tons of loot. In fact, the loot available is almost overkill and many players stop gathering it up. However, after playing it through the first time, I too am growing weary of playing through the second time. I am nearly done, but feel like I could be doing something more exciting, like watching Firefly on DVD again...

I have been playing Battlefield 2.
Edit : moved to separate message.
I've also been playing Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas. I'm sure everyones heard of it, doesn't need much of a review. Just don't let your small children touch this one, its now rated Adults only for a reason.

I have been searching for a game to really sink my teeth into, especially one that has decent single-player action since I have only dial-up internet. I found one:
Warhammer 40K, Dawn Of War and it's expansion,
Winter Assault
I picked up both games marked down at EB for about fifty bucks.
The game is a RTS game that plays similarly to WarcraftIII with heroes and all, with the type of space marine concept that I loved in Starcraft.
Needless to say since Starcraft and Warcraft are 2 of my favorite franchises, I am in love.
Dungeon Siege who???
Make mine Warhammer! Then again, this could all change again next week...

Joe, F.E.A.R. came out today. This is probably going to be one of the better FPS games of the year and maybe one of the best games (or THE GAME) of the year, regardless of genre.
So even though I picked up 2 titles this week, I will most likely p/u FEAR today as well. I have to spend all this extra money on something, you know :-).

Tip : If you're going to get FEAR, you better have one hellova graphics card.
I played the demo, on my Geforce FX 5500 which runs Battlefield 2 beautifully, and it ran like total crap. With all the visual settings at their lowest it ran ok, but at that setting the very first Nintendo had better graphics.

In order to install and play F.E.A.R., your system must meet or exceed the following minimum system requirements:
Minimum:
•Windows XP, x64 or 2000 with latest service pack installed
•DirectX 9.0c August Edition (Included) or higher
•Pentium 4 1.7 GHz or equivalent processor
•512MB RAM or more
•64MB GeForce 4 Ti or Radeon 9000 video card
•5.0 GB free hard drive space for installation
•Additional hard drive space for a swap files and saved game files
•4x CD-ROM drive (DVD-ROM drive for Director’s Edition)
•Broadband or LAN connection for multiplayer games
Recommended Specifications:
•Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or equivalent processor
•1 GB RAM
•256 MB Radeon 9800 Pro, GeForce 6600 or equivalent DirectX 9
compliant video card with hardware T&L and pixel shader 2.0 support
The minimum required graphics card is a crock, unless you want to run it at all minimum settings, which looks like crap. Like I said, i ran the demo on a 2.5 ghz machine with 760 mb of ram and a 128 mb Geforce FX 5500, and it ran horribly. Need at least a Geforce 6600 for this one.

Another funny thing I just read about FEAR. It uses SecureROM copy protection, so good luck getting it installed if you have or even had any virtual drives.
The funny thing about that is it didn't seem to work that well anyway because the director's edition dvd is already on bit torrent, lol, and it runs better then the retail version too. To quote a comment made by someone else, "The game does have problems with the copy protection, but that's the original, not the pirated version. Once again legit users pay the price for copy protection, while pirates waltz around it. Way to go VU." lol
To be clear I am NOT suggesting anyone pirate it, that would be illegal, and impossible to do on dial-up anyway. I just find it humorous that legal buyers of the game are forced to jump through hoops to install it and deal with problems running it while people who pirated it are not.

Mike, this whole scenario sounds an awful lot like Steam and the release of Half-Life 2...
I have 2.56Ghz P4, 512MBRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti-4600 128MB card, so I should be ok.
I ran Doom 3 and Far Cry with respectable settings and they looked great. But by no means do I max out the settings on those games either, but I think I can run it.
I still have a few missions on Warhammer and all of the expansion Winter Assault to play through first. Word is that the wife is picking up FEAR for me for my birthday :-)...

Well I have been battling my way through Warrhammer 40K: Winter Assault, and it is harder than I thought it would be.
I found myself building defenses and infantry in Warrhammer 40K:Dawn of War, and then I would lilly-pad my way from waypoint to waypoint until the objective was met.
Winter Assault has more scripted missions that require a lot of patience and a lot of time. It took me far longer to establish a foothold and march in my troops than I thought it would on the Order missions. I have yet to play the Disorder ones though.
All kidding aside though, these 2 RTS titles are very reminiscent of Starcraft and Warcraft in the good ways, and that is very very good!...

Well I have almost bought F.E.A.R. twice, and I am very afraid that will not run well on my current rig, which will compel me to buy a new computer, which will then cause my wife to freak out. So I am trying to do myself a favor. But my birthday is coming up, and FEAR is what I asked for, so....

Picked up Serious Sam II for my son's birthday. He installed it and has been having a blast. This is just a crazy, mindless shooter reminiscent of 80s twitch video games with sometimes hundreds of enemies on screen at once to blast to bits. The latest of the series (this is number 3) is the most psychodelic of all and seems like a very bizarre game so far.
For example, the Parrot Bomb is just plain wrong...
I will post more when I get some hands-on time!

I watched my son climb into this Gerbil ball of death...you know, the balls you can put rodents in to run amok on the floor? This one is big enough for a human, with spikes all around it. He proceded to run through his enemies, laughing with glee when enemies would "glib" into hundreds of chunks, with this sickening pink-red cloud of blood that he would careen through, over and over and over. Sick stuff!

I haven't played a proper PC game for ages, but I use an arcade on a local forum, that's one based near where I live, quite often.
The last game I finished was Pilgrim.
Our son has a quite a few games. He was talking recently about the Thief series, which he spent ages working through. I wonder if you might like them Alucard? He's also got various strategy games and was a Warhammer enhusiast, although he didn't ever venture into the PC games.

Alucard, how old is your son? I think I'd be a little worried that he takes such delight in gore. Sounds pretty yuck to me! :blink2:

Still Battlefield 2 for me and nothing else yet. Been actually enjoying it too last week or so. Most times I play for 30 minutes and have to turn it off before I throw something, cheating, unfair tactics and play, make me so aggravated. But have been using a good server the last week, I usually hate 'Clan servers' and stick to the public ones but been having a good time on this one. Good admins, that do alota kicking of jerkoffs and its 64 player maps with only 40 players too, which is nice, a full 64 players can feel like a total swarm of players everywhere you look making it more annoying then fun.
Getting me a new video card soon too. Not much higher I can go with a PCI slot, but BestBuy has a very nice 256mb OverClocked GeforceFX 5500 PCI. More then double the power of my current 5500.

My son is 10, and the violence in games is not taken in a perverse way. He simply respects the gore for what it is and moves on. No safety pins through lips, with jet-black hair and punky clothes...yet.
BTW, I got FEAR for my birthday :-)
A few tidbits (actually a lot) will be forthcoming...
