Its about time. This planet has a serious oil addiction that needs to change.

Agreed - 4x4's seriously depress me.
From a link on the same page, this is encouraging too:
Sweden plans for an oil free economy.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4694152.stm

Mine's not a 4x4, but it is a small SUV - Ford Escape. Actually not too bad on gas but I still get looks once in a while. I'd like to trade it in on a hybrid Escape - hubby is not too keen on the idea of refinancing tho.

I care about the environment but my main dislike of oil is really just its not an unlimited resource. It takes millions of years to form really and theres only so much there. The US alone uses like what almost a billion barrels of oil A DAY, another 100 years tops and its all gone, used up, no more to get, not even in the middle east. And I just hope we're all really off the oil addiction by the time it happens cause its gonna hurt if we're not. Not even that people won't have gas, but that oil producing governments will go broke, desperate countrys with nothing else to do will start wars over what does happen to be left. Its gonna happen when the oil runs out, governments will fall, wars will erupt, unless we actually try to do something about it now.

Here the 4x4s are used on the urban school run more often than not - occasionally they will be used to run down to ASDA's (walmart) or Tesco's. These 'off-roaders' are very rarely that. Fortunately they are now being seen less as a status symbol and acquiring a rather less positive image - popularly known here as 'Chelsea Tractors' and 'Bimbo Bins'....
Saw a Hummer parked in town today - I don't know what made me want to weep more, the display of poor taste or the display of lack of interest in the environment.

And another thought I can't help but say, if the US really didn't need oil anymore, first thing we do, ok Saudi Arabia you backstabbing motherf****'s we've kept the fake smile on for you pricks long enough, payback time. lol
We call them our ally, my ass they are, and we play nice with them, 48 blank freakin pages in the 9/11 report having anything to do with Saudi Arabia, but if we didn't need their oil, we'd smack the crap outta them.
