The last few times when running Chdisk I no longer get the blue screen as the process is running, the screen just stays black, I know the process is happening by the activity of the computer (continuous movement of light on the tower) usually after about 30mins the computer reboots so i assume the Chkdisk had done it`s work, any ideas why I no longer see normal blue screen in action(pic below)

Hmm, thats an odd one.
Been googling for a while and can't find anyone ever having the same prob, at least not with any way i can figure to search for it which is proving dificult, 98% of all results are about running chkdisk to fix something else.
Probly a stupid question but might as well start with the obvious, are you sure the monitor is on while its running and not in any standby or power-saving mode ?
Is there anything else wrong with the pc ? Other problems with windows, anything at all that could provide some more info to figure this out ?

Yea it ran fine then, but still weird why the screen stays black.
Have you made any changes to your Windows boot screen or log on screen, using a custom one ? Log on screens barely affect anything but some older programs for chaning the boot screen used to require actually replacing the windows kernal file which obviously could lead to all kinds of problems.

Hi Mike, Yes I did change sometime back to logon using the welcome screen (see pic) but I think I also used a tweak of some sort so did not have to click my name, the computer boots straight in to Windows with no choosing a name or such, perhaps you are correct and the blank screen appears because has no place to go during CHKDSK.

No that wouldn't affect it at all. I know exactly what you're talking about.
If use the welcome screen is turned on, and there is only one user account on the pc, and that user account is not passworded, then it will boot straight into windows using that user account without having to select the user account on the welcome screen.
If use the welcome screen is turned off, then you get a windows 2000 style classic logon screen in place of the welcome screen, and even if there is only one unpassworded user account it will still not automatically progress beyond the logon screen. You would simply click logon while leaving the password box empty.
Either way, neither would affect the chkdisk screen so thats not the problem.

Go to the command prompt and type cmd then ok then type chkdsk c: /f /r . you will get a box telling you that it will be fun next time you reboot, so reboot. See whats displayed.
