I got myself into a pickle today with a PC which I restored but then realised, rapidly, that the restore point I had used was bad...
However, when I tried to restore back to the better, future, point, all I got was a blank system restore window with no information in it.
This issue may occur if one or more of the Jscript registry key settings are incorrect or if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged.
The fix for this is as follows:
Making sure you are logged in with Administrator priviliges go from Start > Run and enter the following commands:
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
This should fix the problem. If not, try the following:
• Click Start, and then click Run.
• In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
• Click Expand File.
• In the File to restore box, type the name of the file that you want to restore.
• In the Restore from box, type the path of the Windows XP .cab file where you want to restore the file, or click Browse From to locate the Windows XP .cab file.
• Note The Windows XP .cab files are stored in the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD.
• In the Save file in box, type the path where you want to extract the new file, or click Browse To to locate the folder that you want.
• Click Expand.
• In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click OK. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.
If the problem is still not solved then a registry fix is probably required. For details please see this KB article:
