This is getting frustrating, at first it was here and there and I thought it was just something normal.
It seems everything, Firefox, IE, program updates, OE, MSN Messenger...etc..all lose the initial connection to the internet with "server not found" and similar errors. If I try again right away for that certain application the connection works and things are fine until I try another site...etc...

I've ran, and the results are clean for:

AVG
Ad-Aware
Spybot
CW Shredder
a-squared

I also ran a check disc and defrag.
I'm running WinXP Home SP2

Here's a screen for an example of what I get,

Any ideas ?

I used to have this problem alot too. The problem was my ISP's DNS servers being slow much of the time.

Give OpenDNS ( http://www.opendns.com ) a try. See if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, then its something else, and let us know that it didn't help.

So far.............what a difference !!

I had read your post before about OpenDNS and didn't get back to it, I really didn't think it was that easy to set up. I plugged the numbers into my router, restarted it and my comp and so far today no errors or messages and it seems quite fast too.

It was to the point where almost every page/link/connection were bringing up the messages, not anymore.

Thanks xpgeek, I'll be a supporter of OpenDNS now.

Mike, I tried the OpenDNS but in my Linksys Router which is a BEFW11S4 Rev.3, and I cannot find anywhere to change my DNS info. The only place it shows is in the status screen where nothing can be edited. I have the IP set static in my network settings on my PC but if I put the DNS addresses for OpenDNS there I have no connection. Any ideas?

Really, you can't just set them directly in Windows ?

Thats what I do.

Huh. I never thought to do that Mike. I used the instructions on the website and went to the Linksys configuration page to enter the servers.

Absolutely love OpenDNS

Finally got it to work, I was not able to connect to my ISP when I changed it before. It is working now though. I always get the goofy glitches anyway.
