Hearing so many, and running into a few myself, hardware problems with Vista, time to start a thread about it.
Any member please feel free to contribute to this thread or add other problems and or solutions or updates.
Known Current Issues
Video Cards
Nvidia good to go with released 32bit and 64bit Vista drivers. Except for SLI cards and setups which require a driver still currently in beta and many people reporting issues and bugs.
No idea on ATI support. Any member feel free to prove info.
Sound Cards
Realtek onboard sound codecs good to go from what I hear. Intel onboard codecs also apparently good to go but some various issues being reported around the net.
Creative sound cards all over the place and quite a mess really. Some older Creative cards not being supported at all. See http://www.creative.com/,case=14186]here (http://193.95.171.84/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=154,E=0000000000195811114,K=9986,Sxi=1,VARSET= ws:[url) [/url] for more info.
They're all still beta drivers even tho it only says it for some. The released beta driver for my X-Fi XtremeMusic works, mostly, ok, but has some big issues still to be worked out. And Creative has announced on its forums that there will be no final release for X-Fi or Audigy series cards until sometime in March. Wonderful (sarcastic).
Network Cards / Adapters
Various support depending on manufacturer and model. Built in Vista driver for my onbaord gigabit NIC, but still no Vista 64bit driver. Check with manufacturers website for proper info.
Chipsets
Intel chipsets all working great from what I hear. No problems with mine at all.
Nforce chipsets a whole other story. Specific major problems with Nforce chipsets on ASUS motherboards surfacing all over the place. Major release Nforce drivers from Nvidia still in beta status.
Logitech
This includes webcams, mice, keyboards, whatever, all thrown into one catagory here for Logitech.
Update : Almost all products, except for very old ones, now supported. Logitech just posted Vista drivers for a vast amount of webcams and mice.
Other
This can be digital cameras, game controllers, uh, you name it, whatever, everything that does not fit into the major categorys above. More major catagorys added as well if members request.
Overall Status
Getting there slowly. Hardware vendors have really dropped the ball on Vista, and Microsoft can't be blamed for it either. Vista has been in beta for a year or more. There should be little excuse for major hardware drivers to be taking this long.
