View Full Version : World's oldest pc?
A reconstructed version of the world's oldest computer has been unveiled in Greece.
The 2,000-year-old device was found by chance on the ocean floor more than a century ago.
Michael Wright, a former senior curator at London's Science Museum, unveiled the complex collection of gears and dials at a conference on ancient Greek inventions.
Experts attending the symposium praised the model as the best yet of a device that is believed to have calculated the motions of the sun, moon and planets.
Mr Wright said the shoe-sized box object not only illustrated the ancient Greeks' love for gadgets but how advanced they were technologically.

And now... only about 10-15% of Greece is online and we struggle to get DSL :(

This reminds me of something unrelated:
Has anyone read anything on time anomoly items? Like bullets lodged in fossils from millions of years ago, or the green glass found in the Middle East that some believe was from a nuclear detonation 6000 years ago???

What 'Timeline' ish (Michael Crichton)?
Found the odd unrecognisable item with prehistoric date on it in the fridge....

Yes Michael Crichton mentioned it in that book. Supposedly, there are incongruous fossils that sometimes turn up at dig sites and excavations that make no sense, and are subsequently hidden from the public. This kind of stuff that joins alongside UFOs, crop circles, and the Jesus family kind of conspiracy stuff...
Well, thank you, Maddy! I'm not doing too bad for my age, but then I don't have any bullets lodged in me.
So, Alucard, you saying that Jesus' descendents aren't alive, well, and eating garlicked snails?

But of all the people who have claimed to be Jesus or related to him, I haven't seen one person yet who could be considered sane...

I also wanted to say that the Greek TechnoGadget you mentioned in this post reminded me of Bubo, the mechanical owl from the movie Clash of the Titans...
Remember him??
Hey, Bubo was cute! (and resistant to bird flu)
Here's a few links re the Anti-Kythera Computer... maybe not much to look at but, like Bubo, virus resistant!

As you can see, it's a portable, but I guess it must pre-date Vasilli Gates - I can't see any sign of any Windows (although it does seem to have a pretty glaring hole in it, so who knows... )
