been trying to "fix" my dads pc!
i had an issue with cont panel or my computer not opening, well found why. At startup a process begins, an "iexplore.exe" one. I assume that its trying to connect to internet, however thats not working either (dsl light keeps blinking, aol say its not them, or bt line apparantly). when i stop this process the computer runs perfectly. When i turn this process off in run, its fine, but when the pc is restarted the process begins again! Some other prog or application must be making it restart and i cant find which. Anyway, the process is
"iexplore.exe""http://iesettingsupdate"

Also i need some spy/adware. I installed spybot on his pc, but wont run untill downloaded another componant from internet, which is down! Can anyone point me to some that i can download to my pc, put on my removable mem and run on my dads pc?

iexplore.exe is Internet Explorer. Positive.

Try stopping a certain administrative service.

See here for how to disable services (http://www.experiencewindows.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1075).

You will see I made a personal observation on one of them.

WebClient
Enables Windows programs create/access/modify web-based files. I have not found a reason to have this service running. Nothing uses it. Disabling this service also seems to me to be the one that stops Internet Explorer from constantly running in the background.

See if that makes a difference.
