ipwins.exe?

Can anyone tell me what this is? I prevented it from starting in sys tray, and sbybot asks me on occasion to allow or denign it to startup in sys tray. I always denign. Today it poped up saying "windows has encountered a prob with ipwins and needs to shut down, sorry for any inconvienance" generic message, but when shut down didnt seem to affect anything??

Ipwins.exe is a piece of malware added by the clickspring/purityscan Adware.

You need to run both AntiVirus scans and Antimalware scans.

What AntiVirus software do you have?

i have avg anti-virus free edition, spybot and lavasoft ad-aware,are these good enough? I found ipwins in c:\prog files\ipwins. on opening the folder there is an uninstall icon, should i run it? How would i of contracted ipwins?

OK - Could you submit a HijackThis log for a qualified admin to look at please?

If you have one piece of malware, you may well have others.

Don't run anything until advised to - particularly if it is provided by the same organisation that put the malware on your pc in the first place.

Do make sure AVG is fully updated and run a full scan with it. Let me know the results and , if possible, post the resultant log here with your HJT log.

this morning whilst doing a full check with avg, when it was scanning prog files, it scanned ipwins, but still said no threat found!

just ran spybot, it identified ipwins and others, and removed. Its now not in the list of programmes or prog files!
