Also when doing it with roxio 8, took 4 hours to do 22% of a 90 minute project!

Video conversion is a resource intensive process, and the time it will take to complete depends on several things. The size of the video image, the size of the original video file, and the speed and power of your computer.

The last time I converted a big avi file to DVD movie format, which was maybe 6 months ago, on a 2.5ghz Celeron D at the time, it took about 6 hours for a 90 minute movie too.

On the Nero problem I couldn't really say, because I stopped using Nero some time ago and now only use Ashampoo Burning Studio (http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/products/php/product.php?session_langid=2&idstring=0710) instead, which I find to be a much easier to use, and quite faster as well, program.

I don't like either Nero 7 or Roxio 8 for converting AVIs (divx/xvid) into MPEG2s->DVD Video Files.

I uses TMPGEnc 3/4 Xpress to convert the AVI file to MPEG2, then use TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5/1.6/2.0 into DVD Video Files, which can be burn't onto blank DVD media by either TMPGEnc DVD Author or Nero 6/7, I personally use Nero 6 (burning Rom), not really keen on Nero 7 (yet).

I have an Intel P4 3.4Ghz N/Wood, using TMPGEnc 3/4 XPress it takes me about 90 mins to encode a 120min film (with AC3 audio stream), if the audio stream in the xvid/divx is MP2/MP3/PCM (wav) it takes longer.

The main factor in how long it takes to encode a divx/xvid file is down to how powerful you processor is, as xpgeek states.
