whenever i cut and and then paste a file the Windows installer box opens, says preparing to install then i can press cancel or eventually dissapears, its only then the file will paste. Its the same with drag and drop, i drag then let go of mouse button to drop, the installer pops up again! It doesnt do anyhing other than annoy me. Only just recently started!

Please help.

Hi Ant

Welcome to EW.

Have you installed or uninstalled any programs recently before the problem started?

How long have you had the problem for?

Usually, windows checks certain programs in memory to see if contents in the clipboard are being used by another program. If it can't find it and the program install (from a .msi file) is still located on your system, like Microsoft Office, it will try to reinstall it every time.

If you removed or installed something, then thats the cause of the problem. If not, then we can look at other solutions for you. Remember to let us know when the problem started.

Thanks and again, Welcome.

hi thanks very much. tbh i think i downloaded a ziped file of roxio 8, and thats when the prob started (about 3 days ago) i then deleted it and my recycle bin is now empty, but still seems to be doing it. Ive been reading through the forum and im so glad i found it by accident, its absolutly brilliant. Thanks also for you quick response

Hi Ant and welcome!
Have you checked your machine for malware? Do you have an antivirus program installed?

Hi Ant

If your problem had only been for a few days, you would be better doing a system restore.

Press Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Once here, click Restore to an Earlier Point. Id take it back a week or before. then click ok and and ok again.

Hopefully all will be back to normal.

Thanks for your kind words about the site, we are small, but have some good people here.

Try clicking Start, Run, then typing clipbrd. This will open the Clipbook Viewer which is a clipboard manager. It will show the current contents of the windows clipboard. Click Edit on top menu, then Delete, and whatever is stored in the clipboard will be purged.

Hi xpgeek, the clipboard is empty! Ive undone my restore. Now limewire pro wont open, ive uninstalled and re-installed but when i click either the shortcut or the icon in the all programms it wont open or do anything!!

xpgeek

Hmm, might need to reinstall Java then. Limewire runs on Java and won't work without Sun Java installed.

ant
16-11-2006, 11:19 PM
ill try that. That just fron jav.sun.com?

xpgeek

Then it is already installed. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling Liwewire then. The restore might have just corrupted some of its files.

ant

tried it. Ill try uninstalling it again tomoz, deleting all files in doc and settings and programes then installing again and see what happens!!

Hi Ant

You must still have something running in the background trying to call for a program.

Download HijackThis from here: http://www.experiencewindows.co.uk/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=2 then run it and paste the log here and we can take a look to see if anything is causing any problems.

Ok. There is a basically unheard of utility called Windows Installer Clean Up Utulity. You can download it below. Install it and then select the pesky Roxio products from the list and click Remove. Lets hope this fixes it.

http://www.experiencewindows.co.uk/images/wicu.jpg

This version of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. The 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows are as follows:

• Microsoft Windows Vista
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003
• Microsoft Windows XP
• Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
• Microsoft Windows 2000
• Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
• Microsoft Windows 98
• Microsoft Windows 95

I used this once when I had to get rid of all the .NET Framework. I couldn't get a security update unless I uninstalled then reinstalled the .NET Framework, but then I couldn't reinstall until I got rid of all of it.
