Activision has today confirmed the first details of Call of Duty 3, which is in development by Treyarch for Xbox 360, PlayStation3, Wii, Xbox and PlayStation2. The game, which is set for release in the Autumn, follows the story of four sets of Allied soldiers (American, British, Canadian, and Polish) as they launch their breakout from Normandy in 1944.

Call of Duty 3 will be the second time that Treyarch has developed a CoD title, the first being 2005's Big Red One on Xbox and PlayStation2, and will mark the franchise's debut on PS3 and Wii. Perhaps more controversially for Call of Duty fans, it will mark the first time that a 'main' installment of the series won't be making an appearance on the PC. The game will also see team-based and vehicular multiplayer gametypes of up to twenty-four gamers, along with different soldier classes and specific abilities.

I have thoughts on this, but others have already said it just so perfectly.

I think it's disgusting that Activision is not doing this for PC. Regardless whether or not it comes out for PC a year later is irrelevant. Call of Duty is a PC title. It was born on the PC, it flourished on the PC. To shun PC gamers like this, is just disgusting. It's bad enough they literally told CoD2 PC gamers to drop dead when it comes to patches for CoD2, now this. Good game Activision.

Oh and yeah, I know Infinity Ward isn't making this. And they are supposedly making a Call of Duty game now for PC. But until it's announced, Activision can die for all I care.

Yea I dont even know why ATI and Nvidia even bother making new video cards... at this pace b next year we PC gamers will be playing "Pac-man 5:What's left for PC gamers" and everything else will be console... it is ver very disgusting when you walk into a game store (EB, Gamestop, Walmart, etc) and you find WALLS dedicated to consoles, ordered alphabetically an then a little shelf with PC games in broken boxes... ridiculous

Thats exactly how the Gamestop, and the EB Games, by me both are. Wall after wall of console games and accessories, controllers, headsets, etc etc, I had to go to 6 different stores last year to find a new gamepad for the PC. I had to have Gamestop special order me a copy of Half Life 2 : Episode 1 cause they actually only ordered like 20 copys with no plans to order more, and needless to say, Half Life 2 was one of the highest selling PC games of all time, Episode 1 sold out in a day.

Why is Nvidia and ATI even bothering to make new video cards, the really good games that actually require that much power from a video card are being made for the PC less and less.

Why is Windows Vista even wasting its time on DirectX 10, when there isn't going to be very many games left to use it.

Why don't I just go buy one of the new consoles I'm repeatedly asked. Why? Because I can get an entire PC for the price of one of them. A really good one for the price of the PS3. And I can only afford one or the other, a console, or a PC, and I choose the one I can play games with AND do a million other things with too.

The way PC gamers are being neglected IS disgusting. And Call of Duty WAS born on the PC, it was made a hit on the PC, and it is disgusting that PC gamers won't be getting Call of Duty 3. It makes me mad beyond words.

As it is, we've got a lot more information. Call of Duty 3 for consoles-only, confirmed. Call of Duty 4, will be available on the PC, and is confirmed. Infinity Ward is not working on an expansion pack for Call of Duty 2, but that's not to say one of their associate game studios (i.e. Gray Matter) isn't continuing the tradition - we'll have to wait and see about that. I think the future is bright for Call of Duty fans, and trust that Infinity Ward will continue to impress in the new era of next-gen gaming, and won't be letting down PC fans anytime in the future either.

The Call of Duty franchise is far too profitable and popular to let die after three WW2 entries, so it will be interesting to see how far Infinity Ward and Activision can take it.

So PC gamers still have to wait another year for 4 while consolers are enjoying 3 ?

Still disgusting.

I agree, but wanted to let you know, and besides How can they miss the pc? All games are written and coded on a PC, Graphics rendered in 3D Studio Max, Lightwave or Maya... So how hard is it to compile a PC version?
